In Honor of The Souls of The Brave
Araw ng Kagitingan or in the English term Day of Valor is a day where we
commemorate the fall of Bataan to the Japanese troops during World War II. It
is a day where we pray for the souls of those who unfortunately passed away
because of the horrendous punishments the Japanese used on both the
surrendering forces (Filipino & American forces).
Araw ng Kagitingan is celebrated every 9th of April. As to why we celebrate Araw ng Kagitingan is to commemorate those soldiers who fought and defended Bataan. But unfortunately, the commander of the thousands of soldiers surrendered into the hands of the Japanese. The Japanese did not show mercy to the surrendered soldiers or what they would call “prisoners of war”. The prisoners of war were forced to march a long distance without rest. A lot of soldiers died at what we now call “Bataan Death March”. They fought for our country’s freedom and it is right that we celebrate it and honor their deaths.
In
conclusion, Araw ng Kagitingan is an important date in our country to
commemorate the soldiers that fought and defended Bataan. It is the only way we
can thank the soldiers for defending our country.
