Kannawidan Festival: The most anticipated festival for the Ilocanos

 

           

         Kannawidan Festival is commonly celebrated here in Ilocos Sur to commemorate the separation of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. It is also a festival where Ilocano people are waiting for. Now since we are in a pandemic, last year’s Kannawidan was not that much exciting as we young one’s cannot really go to the festival. But this year, we can celebrate Kannawidan like it was before the pandemic happened. I’m going to state a few reasons why we Ilocano people anticipate this kind of festival.

            The first reason are the events, there are many kinds of events happen in a span of 2 weeks. Ranging from dances, race, contests, pageants, and many more. This kind of events attract the attention of the people here to come and celebrate Kannawidan Festival. Another reason are the shops, all of the cities in the Province of Ilocos Sur come to the Kannawidan Festival and sell their local products. There are many ranging from vegetables, fruits, snacks, daily items, and many more.  The last reason is that Kannawidan Festival gives historical vibes. From the cultural dances, to the trading of products gives of the essence of history.

           

     Overall, Kannawidan Festival is an enjoyable festival to go and celebrate to it. The events and products alone can make it an enjoyable experience. So come and celebrate it with us next year and hopefully the world will return to normal.
